Glasgow Parkrun #124

Results

Another Saturday morning, and another attempt at breaking my PB at the Glasgow Parkrun (17:13), and hoping to get under 17 minutes, or trying to win the time trial.

The weather seemed just about perfect for a fast run. I saw Robert Gilroy on the startline, so knew I would have someone to follow. I started fairly conservatively, and only moved up to 4th/5th position after about 1km. Like last week, young Andrew Clark from Giffnock went tearing off on the 1st lap, but I figured we would catch him on Lap 2.

My main competition came from Shaun Lyon of Greenock Glenpark, who I kept with on Lap 1, but he just got away at the start of the 2nd lap. Towards the end of the route I had to work hard on 2 account: firstly to hold off a determined challenge from Steven Prentice of Bella Harriers; and secondly to negotiate the obstacle course of iPod-wearing slower runners blocking the route, and resolutely refusuing to move over to the left, probably because they can’t hear the marshals instructions.

The end result was I finished 4th in 17:22. So 2 seconds slower than last week.

Scott Mitchell was the only other Westie running, albeit incognito in a black T-shirt and down as Glasgow Uni H&H. Scott finished 11th in 18:01.
