Feel The Burns

Snow!  Snow, snowy snow!  I just love to run in the snow.  Lovely, crisp white snow.  There was plenty of it about in the hills around the wee borders town of Selkirk on the weekend.  Not so deep that the fit and keen couldn’t run most of the course.  Not too icy either.  Some cloud, mild breeze. The sun even came out for a while.  Well done to the organisers for putting on such brilliant weather, and for the post-event haggis tatties and neeps.  I’ll try not to mention the hot showers for fear of putting the hard-core off, but this was an event to savour!

Ten Westies turned out, in a field of 136.  Owen showed himself to be in great shape after the break, setting the standard with a sub-2 hour time. Alasdair somehow manages to stay fit without ever doing any training. George, John McInally and Peter took my pre-match caution about finishing in front of their Captain seriously, and made a photo-finish for themselves instead.  Pauline rolled in with a respectable time on what is virtually home-turf, and it was wonderful to see Peter and Elspeth back in action!  Hopefully the event will become a regular fixture.  I’ll certainly plan to come back.
