Falkirk Parkrun 45
To Oscar’s disgust I decided to go it alone at this parkrun. After warming up I had a look around and the lack of recognisable fast runners encouraged me. The race kicked off and I took the lead. When we turned off the road at the end of the lake I could feel a few runners close by so I really pushed it up the hill into the forest.
I got to the top and got into a pretty decent rhythm and I could feel the runners behind fading away. I managed a glance back as I was crossing the bridge and could see I had a big gap with second place so eased off a bit as I was feeling the burn.
I slogged my way up heartbreak hill with thoughts of the downhill forest trail back to the pond. I managed to pick up the pace a fair bit again while running on the trail.
When I emerged out onto the road I checked my watch and saw that a dog-free PB might be on the cards so upped the effort. It wasn’t to be though and I finished in 17:40 (8 seconds over my PB but 41 seconds ahead of 2nd place). Winning my first parkrun was a pretty good consolation prize for not getting a PB though :-)
