Dumyat

1993

Had a good run. Fast race over very changeable ground. Race starts off on road for 1/4 a mile then up a single track through gate in wall onto a stony but solid road type track for 1/2 mile. This then descends before joining a very steep uphill climb on a tarmac road. Jump a stream then very stiff climb into a bluebell wood. Follow wood path for 1/2 mile. Duck under fallen tree before breaking out onto open hillside; this proved to be a Campsie style path to the top. Returned by same route.

Good course. I kept up with pack better than I expected but still nowhere near where I should have been. Lost 2 places on the descent which didn’t bother me. My right calf muscle survived quite well considering the bashing it got. I was fourth Westie home after Dave Calder, Dave Rogers and Mark Rigby (of course). Didn’t stay for prizegiving as I had to go to Kilsyth for a Gaelic class.
