Calders represent Westies at Dalry Gala Week 10K

The Dalry 10K is a smashing wee mid-week race. As in other years, the race was started by the Gala Queen and her two princesses, who emerged from a big black limo minutes before the start. Tension mounted as the start was delayed, runners poised on toes, as the Gala Queen suffered considerable difficulty blowing the starting whistle. But then we were off, Muffy and Dave resplendent in their yellow vests (Archie where were you?? I took the train and thought I might meet you, but no joy. Hmm).

The route used to be a nice big loop, through a scheme and then out into country lanes, but now it’s just an out and back course (apparently they used to steal the signs in the scheme). About half the course is on country lanes. There was one wheel chair participant who took the hills backwards, I’ve never seen that before. Dave managed to overshoot the turning point and added extra metres to the course, but yours truly took the turn with military precision, if I may say so (I’m a dab hand at negotiating orange cones). Dave came in at a very respectable 37:47, yours truly was a bit slow at 44:14 (first race since January), but managed to be second woman and win enough to recoup my rail fare!

Loads of bananas and chocolate bars afterwards.
