COVID-19

Dear Westies,

We hope that you are all well. We are delighted to announce our first steps towards returning to some kind of normal club activities!

With the lifting of travel restrictions on 3rd July, virtual events based on a common location can go ahead (as opposed to virtual events based on a general time, distance, or height). We will get the ball rolling with a series of VIRTUAL RACES. Look out for the full details very soon!!!

We are also looking into some version of an extravaganza that could be organised without having to travel too far or stay overnight anywhere.

Unfortunately, organised group running in the form of club runs is still a little way off. There are still limitations on outdoor group size and Scottish Athletics’ recommendation is that events should not have runners following each other outdoors at less than 4 m, so we don’t think the club runs are viable at this time. Hopefully, a further reduction in cases of the virus accompanied by further lifting of restrictions should see some kind of small group running reappear in late July or August.

We know that many of you have enjoyed the Friday Zoom virtual pub quizzes. Thanks to all those people that come up with the weird and wonderful questions. With a lifting of various restrictions, we will put a pause on the quizzes themselves, but we will still open a Zoom session in case people would like a chat.

We hope that you enjoy the lifting of travel limitations but please remember to maintain distancing, practice good hygiene, and respect that some communities are more isolated and vulnerable than others and some car parks may not reopen immediately or at all. We have also updated out exit route according to changes announced from the Scottish Government.
