Dunbartonshire Cross Country Relays

Andy Triumphs in Codgers Close Call Andy Freer ran a fine race at the Dunbartonshire Relays at Garscube Estate, edging out Drew Turnbull and Ian Struthers in a close run battle and setting up Dave Calder on the last leg to sneak Westies B Team into second last place. Notwithstanding the fact that Clydesdale D

Ben Rinnes 5 Tops, 2005

It wasn’t what I expected! Having read past race reports and viewed photo’s of previous races, I expected glorious sunshine, tremendous views and idyllic running. Well, at least we got some of the latter. We left Glasgow early morning with clear skies but as we got closer to Dufftown, the clouds came down and it

Round Arran Relay

27 July Westies Wimmin were crowned Round Arran Relay Champions yesterday following a ruthless display of clinical finishing in the 56 mile circuit. The Westies team, including new signing Naomi and debut performance by Lilian (yes, really!) were too strong for the opposition and easily took the first place which narrowly eluded them last year.

West Districts Relays

There was a great Westies turnout of 15 runners for the start of the Winter League on Saturday at the West District Relays at Kirkintilloch. In the best traditions of cross-country, it was raining, the course was a bog and there were midges abound. In defiance of the usual Westies traditions, everyone turned up on

East Kilbride 10k

1 December Westies Captain and world-record breaker Charlie Campbell triumphed over the rest of the Westies men in his 2001 winter debut at the Hugh Wilson Memorial 10K at East Kilbride on Saturday. Charlie managed to maintain a respectable lead over Don Reid for most of the race, finishing 20 seconds ahead in a close

The Nationals

Captain Charlie Campbell braved a career threatening injury to lead a 10-man team into the Nationals on Saturday. Meanwhile, the absence of their main rivals ensured that Muffy and Drew took the Westies Winter League titles. The overnight wet conditions turned the undulating Falkirk course into a bit of a quagmire, which clearly suited most

Dunbartonshire CC

Smiler Rodwell is Big Cheese as Women run a Cracker Damon Rodwell showed an effortless return to form last weekend at the Dunbartonshire Cross Country Championships as the Westies Women took the team prize from Garscube in a surprise scoop. The trail was pretty good considering the uninspiring location of Maryhill Park, with a fair

National Cross Country Championships

Linwood is possibly one of Scotland’s most dull towns, famous only for an interesting but flawed piece of socialist industrial planning in the 60’s and 70’s called the Chrysler Car Plant, and a mention in THAT well-known Proclaimers song. Such is the anonymity of the place that a certain club secretary travelling from the south

Christmas Handicap 2007

Andy Plumbs the Depps to Lift Treasure! Andy & Jenny Edwards made it a family double act at the Club Xmas Handiicap at Carbeth yesterday, recording the fastest men’s and women’s times. Andy obviously fancied himself dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow aka Johnny Depp. In this respect he was undoubtedly encouraged by Jenny, who, explaining

Glasgow Universtity Road Race, 8th November 2008

6 Westies turned out for a very unboring tarmac run at Garscube ( nb JD; no value judgements in this report about other events the same day!); 5 miles of real speed racing in our home turf! Gibbie charged off at the start but was quickly caught by Dave & Hamilton, the latter letting the
