Earlston Black Hill

Travelled down with Jonathan Weir for this race. A long way to come for what is more of a trail than a hill race but nice route and very well organised and supported. Although still not fully fit I actually enjoyed the run although the enjoyment level went up and down dramatically during the race.

Knock Hill

Great wee race although half of it is on tarmac. A small field of around 30 took part and I, the only westie, was well back in the field, partly due to taking it easy before Jura, and partly because I’m just getting slower. It had been bucketing with rain just 20 minutes before the race

Newtyle

First race of the summer league …..apologies for short notice…..and four Westies started the race. Myself, Brian Bonnyman, Stefan Gorgas, and George Douglas. Due to problems with parking at the Loch of the Lowes the start/finish has been moved and the race altered ……makes it a bit longer and with a bit more climb. Despite a

Grandtully

Grandtully is a nice wee evening race always held on Easter Sunday and is somewhere between a hill and a trail race…..just enough climb to edge in as a hill race. Just over 20 runners turned up for the race although several of them had already completed 4 races that weekend. Myself and Owen were

Birnam

Results Despite much email traffic regarding Westies who were going to run at Birnam it was just myself and Don Reid who actually turned up for this great wee race. The sun was splitting the sky throughout the race which had around 70 runners. Prasad Prasad won the race although no results as yet so

Sutherland’s Grove hill/trail race

Results Got a lift up to Barcaldine with Trevor Shaw and Herbie McLean and their partners for this new route organised by Tom Smith to replace Beinn Lora. The weather was absolutely superb with bright sunshine hitting the tops of the snow-covered hills as we drove through Tyndrum and past Cruachan although some concerns about how icy

Meall a Bhuachaille

Results After overheating badly at Run of the Mill I was pleased when the temperature plummeted at the end of the week which definitely meant I was looking forward to this race. Drove up to Badaguish Centre on Saturday and got there about an hour before the off. Met Brenda and Manny at check in

Rhenigidale – a great day out

I’d been thinking about possibly heading off to Harris to do this new race, organised by Stuart Simpson, for a few weeks but hadn’t made up my mind. However, I mentioned it as a possibility at last week’s Caerketton downhill and was told it was stupid and impossible to do it in a day trip

Caerketton Downhill

Over to Edinburgh for one of my favourite races. Its all over in a few minutes and all downhill so its all about balance rather than graft. The much younger and much faster JD was the only other Westie and he had his 9 year old daughter Taylor ( I think that’s the spelling) with
