Pressendye Hill Race

New race last Thursday at Tarland in Deeside organised by Deeside. Long way to go for a race but I used to live not far from there so suspected would be a good route and it was…..9k and 450m of climb..A few hundred metres of road at the start then a series of narrow dry paths

Falkland hill race

Surprised to be the only Westie at this great wee race yesterday…..a classic short, sharp up and down race from Falkland ascending East Lomond…..the race starts and finishes at the fountain in the Main Street and coincided with a local gala which meant Falkland was in even worse traffic chaos than for the Burdens….around 50

Clachnaben – the Bonny Man does us proud

Results First race of the Westies Summer league was on saturday up at Clachnaben and only two Westies took part, both BBs but one enhanced the reputation of our fine club while the other, myself, managed to complete the race. I can only assume that the rest of the club were either cycling all over the

Sron a Clachain

The second race of the Killin double header weekend and again the weather gods were incredibly kind. The field was depleted to just under 30 hardy souls, most of whom had done the Tarmachan race yesterday. Only 3 westies today, Manny, Brenda and myself and rumour had it that Mr Gorman had been celebrating his triumph

Meall nan Tarmachan

An absolutely fantastic race today. The weather was perfect, the race was incredibly well organised by Trevor and Kate with tea, coffee and scones available at race registration and afterwards there were several choices of soup, sandwiches galore and cakes aplenty all free as part of erase entry. To top that there was a huge

Ben Venue

Good turnout of Westies at Ben Venue despite the number running in the McAndrew relays or down south today. At long last my prayers were answered and the race was run in cool conditions, great for running, and fast underfoot other than the really slippy rocks along the ridge. Alan Gilkison had another excellent run

Creag Bheag

Up to Kingussie on Saturday for the Creag Bheag race organised by our very own Manny Gorman. Despite the fact that there were several other races that day he got a field of 36 I think, which is a good advance on last year but this race deserves a much larger entry. Its a short

Luss highland games race

I did this race a week ago and was surprised to be the only Westie in a highland games so close to Glasgow. The race is very short, less than 5k, and the main problem you have, apart from the sharp climb is finding your way back down through the bracken, fields, and farm yards

Westies triumph in Outer Hebrides

Westies win in the Islands shocker ! 1st and 3rd for the Gold and Black ! Team prize taken by Westies ! Biggest surprise in Harris since the Vikings landed ! I headed off to do the new race, organised by Stuart Simpson, ascending Clisham on Harris at the weekend. I decided to drive to Uig late

Kenmore Games- Bonnyman rules OK

Last year Brian Bonnyman won the Kenmore Games hill race and he defended this title tonight with some style, overhauling Adrian Davis and Ian Anderson on the climb, establishing a good lead which he held to win by well over a minute in 33:11. First Lady was Lisa Blackley and her kids and the Bonnyman
