Arran Half Marathon

1st July 2007

After a lazy day on Saturday sitting on the summit of Beinn Ime, Ellie and I decided to head over to Arran on Sunday, and maybe possibly to jog round the Half Marathon.

Luckily there were race buses to Blackwaterfoot so we reached the start OK. The weather was fairly mild and drizzly, so not bad for running.

I set off with the lead bunch for 6 runners as far as Shiskine, then lost patient with the slow pace, and started to shift it on a bit taking the lead several times before Stuart Gibson of Calderglen finally opened up a slight gap. I decided to sit back and catch him later, and ran side by side with Clyde Marwick of Shettleston until about 6 miles, at which point I thought I’d better get after Stuart. The gap looked achievable to close, but despite ramping it up for the final 3 miles, I couldn’t reel him in at all. Still pleased enough to get a PB, and Ellie did well to finish 3rd lady.

1. Stuart Gibson, 1:15:49

2, Chris Upson, 1:17:17

3. Clyde Marwick, 1:17:48

Women:

1. Dhavala Stott, 1:28:19

2. Rebecca Johnson, 1:30:07

3. Ellen Homewood, 1:32:29
