another british medal for the pot

scott mckendrick laughed in the face of the team gb selectors who once again overlooked him for the old school mile event… do they still hold this???… in china and instead turned his attention west, recording a trophy winning performance at Irvine’s mini olympics, the merrymas mile. From a top field, or should that be in a heavily overgrown field, the westies utlility man turned in an alf tupperware-like display through the long grass, over the jaggy nettles and occasionally tripping over the lane markings on Irvine ac’s legendary grass track. This was middle distance running for the lazy hill runner. I won’t bother with the stats as westies are not that kinda club but at 1gbp per mile this would have proved reasonable value for money; however, as I opted for a last minute entry with no cash transaction recorded I left with a 192mm solid base trophy for second place and a large smile as i rubbed my lucky pound coin in my racing short pocket once more.

For the record i also won first (and only) senior in the 200 metre sprint event in 2004?, beaten by the only other competitor, a young bloke with spikes and his own starting block, by a shade over 100 metres… enough pots here to start a reasonably sized soup kitchen…see you next year mr.reid!
