Wet Wednesday

Only 6 hardy Westies (including new guy Martin) turned up at the Strathblane War Memorial for this Wednesday's run, presumably everyone else was away at Kinnoul. The rain was getting heavier as we prepared to set off and once out on the hillside we had a strengthening wind to contend with. The last part of the climb up Slackdhu had the wind behind but even that was not enough to entice me onward to Dumfoyn and Dumgoyne. On the way off we saw Pauline and Martin heading down as well so only Ana, Johanes, Jason and his dog headed on towards the remaining hills. A good bit above Cantywheery I encountered 5 very wet mountain bikers looking for a way back to Strathblane as an alternative to the Pipe Track so I gave them a couple of options and left them to it. The run back along the Pipe Track was into a full head wind and stinging rain so I was glad to get back into the trees and then the car. Quite a baptism, literally, for Martin, hope it did not put him off. Only highlight was managing to get a photo of Cantywheery Cottage for the Geograph project, don't know how Chris missed out on this on!

This was a complete contrast to last weeks earls seat run in blissful golden sunshine. instead torrential rain being driven to sting by an amazing wind made this a hard night out. Martin bravely soldiered on and i hope he returns with better wet weather gear. As Graham said Anna Johanes and I (plus Rani) went on to Dumfoyne, which was a slog, but Rani rolled around boed at the slow bipeds. Then Ana who had cycled out tonight! called it a night and cut back while Johanes and I went to Dumgoyne. The wind here was truly scarey and I was afeared of being blown off the summit. I was thinking of creeping of round the side, but once out of the wind found a little more energy to continue to the top. We were just starting the descent when Luke and his dog arrived, so a brief chat as we jogged down, before Luke dashed off and I held Johanes back on what I felt was a much longer than usual return track. I am sure someone added an extra mile. A good wet character building night!
