Dumyat 2006
Well "They" say that it's always good weather for Dumyat. It was'nt.
It was quite simply bathed in glorious sunshine to allow us-18-Westies to stretch & loosen up after the drive up. Fortunate to get there on time
perhaps-those that did'nt had a later start time of 7.25 apparently due to some congestion on the eastern side of the country.
It was all looking so good,so good ,until they started the race!
Off through the funnel,on to the tarmac, jostelling for position, into the wood, the lovely bluebell wood, more cushioning now in the mud-that's
better,keep running,oh,first log-jam on the steep section,all comes to a
halt, then on & on , over the fence & on to open hill in bright sunshine, assembled spectators on the rocky outcrops-good vantage point to see knackered runners emerging from the wood,
& up & up, before long they're coming back down again,oh for
goodness sake! lad just in front goes slamming into a runner
descending, they both seem to brush it off like a speck of dirt,(mind
you the guy going up was a "big lad"),finally onto the summit &
you just had to take a millisecond to take in the stunning view,(or
in Gordon's view just skitting round the cairn),& now it's all downhill
so that's fine-or,is it?not a particularly hard track to negotiate as
paths go,but still some good little turns & twists to get you going,
plus the odd little bog to slow you up,or bring you to a dead halt,
four-pointed star face down in the bog-not quite this year,full-on
power on the throttle if there's anything left, couple of steep descents back in the wood trying to stay upright, then back on the
tarmac- and what's this-a car on tarmac! a car going at 5 m.p.h.
alongside the runners-well was this the support vehicle to get the
runners through the last 500 metres?a well positioned hand was
sufficient to halt his errant Wed. night drive through the throng,
back into the funnel after the last downhill section, and to the
ecstatic applause of the assembled masses,or was that mild
polite rumblings.
You will know the results by now. Well done to all racers.
Chap named Nigel was first Westie. Well done Nigel.Others that
had good runs-Luke & David, & Murdo & Gordon, & Donald put in
his now customary sprint finish to really lift the crowd. Sorry if I've
missed you out & you had the best run of your life ,particularly the
ladies.

Lovely evening for Dumyat (again), and another solid turnout of Westies for the 33rd Dumyat Race.
David Riach set the early pace for team Westies before getting eclipsed by Luke and Nige later on. Further back Gordon Robinson and Murdo did do duel with Murdo edging it on the night. Ladies included Ana, Katherine, Pauline (first Westies wumman), Helen, Rosie, Pat and Myra all putting in stirling performances (pun - geddit ?).
However, the nights prize must go to Donald who put in the fastest sprint finish you will ever see an old geezer do - a blur of yellow and grey ... putting him home a hair's width ahead of Tom Bowie in a very useful time of 48min. Congratulations everyone.
