Stuc A'Chroin

As has been said elsewhere a very well organised race and thanks to all the volunteers who carried loads of bottles of Highland Spring (the race was sponsored by them) plus Jelly Babies up the hill. Dehydration would certainly have been a problem otherwise. The whole course was flagged so there were no excuses for getting lost. It was a beautiful spring day with excellent visibility if a bit hot for racing. Carnethy filled up the first 3 places with Stewart Whitlie (2.21), Simon Peachey and Ronnie Gallagher. Nige was 6th (2.30) (he'd been 4th until the final forest road section) which seemed good to me but he was a bit disappointed given that this was his longest run for several months after coming back from injury. Angela Mudge (2.31) was 1st lady and 7th overall. I managed to hang on to 9th (2.33) thinking I was going to get caught all the way back from Glen Ample by a group of 3 which included Sandy Bennet. They must have been tiring at the same rate I was. Chris was 3rd Westie at about 2.40 and Steffen was about the 3 hour mark. At least 4 other Westies ran that I'm aware of Blair, Davy, Jason and ?(sorry memory loss). Apologies if I've missed anyone. Thanks again to the organisers and all the volunteers.

Easier than the Whangie! and I say that even though I am not as fresh as a daisy today as I write this. As Luke said a well organised race, with plentiful cheery marshals to help us stragglers carry on. The heat was definately an issue, but then wierdly we descended a snow chute off Stuc! So many firsts in one day. The climbs were hard and the final one a killer, but I was just trying to finish by then. I was well chuffed to be under 4hours for a hard race and my first official AL. It was good to have many cheery Westies there, running and spectating, but where were the women? A definite for the diary next year.

Stupendous outing, with magnificent views, great company and enough water stations & jelly babies on hand to keep my own supplies in my bag till the end !

Of course I should have said it felt easier because I was doing around 17 minute miles and I cant imagine how slow I must have been going up the last hill!
