Whangie Whizz 2006
Another successful race. A record field of 151 in the seniors and another dozen in the junior race means that we've probably reached the limit for this event. Certainly the landowner will need some placating before we're allowed to race in 2007. Still, we had a new woman's record from Angela Mudge. Incredibly, in addition to 19 Westies marshalling, recording and doing results, we also managed to have 23 running in the senior race and another 4 in the kid's races...this must be some sort of a record?
Thanks to all those who helped out, and also to Trossachs Search and Rescue for doing their bit as well.
I'll leave it to someone else to write an actual race report,. since I never managed to get out onto the hill.

Well that was the hardest race I have ever run! I can honestly say this was harder than the AnniWaltz. I think Skiddaw was a climb too far on Sunday and the milage was still in my legs, and I struggled across the bogs, stickking and falling 4 times in the clag. Several of you were very kind at what must have been a real sight. However I began to feel good on the final descent and caught up a big gap and actually passed 3 people so there seems to be some consellation in that. Yet again a great Westies turnout and friendly atmosphere, and that was my 1st time in the Carbeth afterwards too. See you all (?) at Stuc'.

Well done to Westies for organising another great Whizz- great weather, great turnout and great bogs. I think the cows do more land erosion than 150 pairs of legs

Think it was 24 Westies if you include Pat, unless she has gone off to form her own club!

Also, looks like Pauline was 1st FV50 as well. Well done! We weren't able to sort out all the prizewinners in advance of the prizegiving.

Fantastic wee race.Years since I have done it and loved it! Really tough time with a cracking field, including Nigel who's regime of eating a power celery diet has worked a treat, although I much prefer losing a place or 2 and still eating pie suppers and 6 pints!!Good stuff Nige - keep it going at Stuc chum!Dave ran me close to the line and Luke again put in great shift - must be all the training he gets chasing cattle around fields with a rubber glove on...Fantastic atmosphere with a great turn out of Westies marshals all shouting us on and somehow dealing with 151 entries on the night!!Maybe a wee "thank you" bottle to the landowner from the extra income might be enough to placate him for any parking grief?I remember the same grief from the Trig Trog days!!Could this be the first pre-entry Wednesday night race next season?!?!?Well done Dave and everyone else who did us proud on the night.
ps - I still wish the race would run through the Whangie itself.....

Re captions, our club members have asked if in future you could please spell our club name correctly.... it is Milburn with one l not two. At least Chris has got it right in the results!
Seriously though, we all enjoyed the race, keep up the good work.

Thanks for pointing that out Steph and apologies. The spelling was taken from the official results, hence originated there, but had also been cross-referenced with google which threw up lots of Millburn Harriers results, so obviously other clubs must be getting it wrong as well, much to the annoyance of your members. We'll endeavour that the Westerllands time-keeping officialls get it right next year – seriouslly!
