Lock 27 TT

A bright and breezy evening for our monthly little time trial handicap, with six of us participating. Wanting a jog myself rather than just standing and timing, we agreed on set intervals and Nigel being the fast man at the back, set us off at the appropriate time. Being the heavyweight of the bunch, I had given myself a generous h'cap which was well and truly needed, as I lumbered up Cleveden hill, just managing to resist temptation to walk. My 'race' plan was to try and waddle round the loop to the last half mile of canal bank before the real runners came cruising by, and by a miracle this happened. Onto the last winding bend of canal with about 400 metres to go, I finally dared sneak a glance, and spied a yellow top further back closely followed by another bod. Shit!, I tried to ramp the pace right up to nine minute miles now but that was like trying to ask an elephant to out run a cheetah. Last hundred yards and the yellow man still hadn't caught me but the slight decline meant gravity was on my side and dragged me closer to the metal finishing barrier. I crashed into it (sure I dented the damn thing), stopped the watch and turned to see Hamilton only ten feet behind me with David about another ten behind him. Yes! Must be the closest ever finish to this little race and it felt great to return to winning ways, other than pie eating contests that is. Nathan arrived shortly, hotly pursued by Nige who was hammering it like a man possessed, then another short gap and Davy came in.

Summary : Well I managed to take five secs off my pw (hesitate to call it a pb), and Hamilton improved on last month's time, showing that he is coming back nicely from injury. David had a great run considering I caught him doing secret training in the KP's on Saturday, followed by his little 200km bike ride on Sunday. Nathan slightly dropped his batting average this time round to just over 18 mins, and Davy was about a minute slower than his debut last month, but is doing well whilst recovering from a broken toe! I had a feeling that an in form Nige was gunning for Jon's course record but the fresh breeze must have held up his little frame and he missed it by just four seconds. A great time none the less, and his 16 min 42 secs means he leap-frogs Chris with the 2nd fastest time on the list. Full times are on the spreadsheet link at the bottom of the website RUNS section.

No TT next month, due to May Day holiday, but things resume on Monday 5th of June, at which point everyone should be flying so maybe we'll see Jon's 14 month record go then!?
