Loch Katrine 12k 2006

There was a "window" of ideal weather last Saturday for one of the most scenic road races I know. The Duke's Pass north of Aberfoyle was snow-lined and under a shroud of mist, but a number of cars and runners made it to the 12 noon start - unfortunately nobody I knew, and fewer starters than last year when Dave Calder, Hamilton and I turned out for Westies.

It's an out-and back, undulating course, generously provided with kilometre markers so you can note your split times. A good race if you're going well, but possibly depressing if you meet the returning leaders as you toil towards the turn. Luckily I had a number of runners about my level (back of the serious pack/front of the fun runners) to help me on my way, including a stunning blonde burd, the view of whose handsome hurdies (as a hare to a grey old hound) helped me to a PB of just over 56 minutes. Not too bad considering this was my 3rd run of any kind this dreich month of March!
