Daryle James Bogenrief Memorial Snowshoe Classic

Week # 3 of the Instructor Pro Series featured the Daryle James Bogenrief Memorial Snowshoe Classic won decidedly by Lionshead's own Alan Braunholz breaking the tape with a time of 11.38. Second place was taken by Wilson Dawes of Vail Village with a time of 12.14 followed closely by Golden Peak's James "Disco" Pisko at 12.17 and Keith "Swaz" Fraser from Lionshead/Westerlands at 12.22. Rounding out the top 5 was Doug Johnson from Golden Peak at 15.07.

The 2 kms, 300 feet vert course with a Start/Finish at the Golden Peak Ski School bell featured a base traverse past the Vista Bahn base to lower Bear Tree via the Vail Village Catwalk followed by the return leg up Gitalong Road and back down Windisch Way to Gopher Hill and the finish.

My lungs were killing me the whole way round - think I need a break from "work" to do some training. The Pro Series course committee promises a different, more technical route for Snow Shoe Race #2 on March 2nd. Thank the mighty wee man I'll be in South Carolina that week !!

Still, managed a PB for this course by 10 seconds

After 4 of 14 events Sofi Soderstrom's perfect participation and dominance of her class puts her in the lead with 301 points followed by Malin Johnsdotter with 281. Alan Braunholz and Swaz are tied for 3rd place with 261 points. Lionshead leads the POD points race with 2011 while Golden Peak and Vail Village stand neck and neck with 1194 and 1127.

Week # 4 features our 1st Giant Slalom of the series on Tuesday January 31st at Golden Peak From the World Cup start. One run, 4:00 PM start. On Thursday, February 2nd we have our 1st Half Pipe Competition of the series.
