Beaver Creek Snowshoe Event 1

Still struggling to get used to the altitude and with my body still trying to figure out what time zone it's in, I entered my first 10k Snowshoe race at Beaver Creek, near Vail in Colorado on Saturday 10th December. Although the sun was out, temperatures were a chilly 25 degrees (old school) and conditions uncomfortably cold along some of the shady forest trails. Got to figure out how to avoid snow getting down my neck as it's flicked up from behind.

I lost count of how many yanks asked what the W stood for, as I pushed past runners who had started too hard to finish in 30th place in a time of 1h17m39s. Winner was one Josiah Middaugh with something like 54 minutes to his credit. Top "Betty" was Anita Ortiz in 1h06.

80 ran the 10k. Start at 8150 feet, total climb about 1500 feet - think the distance was a bit short of 10k - Mile 4 took me an unrealistically quick 6 minutes !!

Must get down the gym next week !
