Allan Scally Road Relays

Five Westies braved the cat-calls, fireworks up the backside and

general verbal abuse from the locals of Baillieston by participating in

the famous Allan Scally Road Relays.

Blair lead the team off on

the first of four 4.8 mile legs, with recent Westies recruit Jason (on

his second race outing in two weeks) taking over the mantle on leg two.

Stalwarts, Ian and Drew completed the team effort.

Archie, who turned up late, probably having got lost on the way, managed to squeeze into another team... Clydesdale was it?

Drew will post the results soon.

No Blair I did not get lost (scurrilous accusation) but used a 62 bus for the journey which would have been quicker by stagecoach. The composite entry consisted of myself and two slightly pot-bellied Irvine Cable runners.

Well I joined the Westies for another race. Of course friends in England think I moved up here for the scenery & joining a hill running club makes them all jealous, but 2 races in 2 weeks have allowed me to take in the beauty of Cumbernalud & Baillieston! Well it was a friendly race and I had less trouble finding the team this time. The route is not the prettiest, but not the worst I've ran, and I'm still getting faster which pleases me. The locals were largely friendly too. Near the end one card shouted to me that I should give up as the leaders had been past 20 minutes ago. Then he shouted " well good luck if you have no sense." As I finished my leg and Ian took over and the rains set in. A cool, wet and tiring day in east Glasgow. Did I see sense? Whens the next race!
