pentlands skyline race
My heroic (in my opinion anyway!) effort at getting round at all in the face of a stinker of a cold was nothing compared to the efforts of Luke, Swaz and Martin who made their Pentland debuts in fine style, with Chris finishing as first Westie and Jim "Highland Hillrunner" Hall bringin up our rear.
Steffen left us wondering whether he was a "Manor Mouse" after just failing to be fastest person to run both races. Weather was pretty foul for the first half into a strong wind but relented for the run back. There was a great turnout of 121 finishers.

...planned to go hard the whole way (est 3 hours) to see how long I could maintain a "Lactate Threshold" rate in a hill race reputed to be "very runnable". Lost my gels (quick fuel) on 2nd climb, along with my map - so had to rely on good visibility and cereal bars (not-so quick fuel) to get round. Started bonking on 3rd to last climb, but dug in and concentrated on picking up places..
Happy enough with result - top 25% at last ! But reckon I could've broken 3 hours with the right fuel (and the right path off Hare Hill - sorry Stef !)
Great views of Edinburgh on the return leg...

Must have switched off my brain to follow a first timer when I should have know the right route. But then, I have only myself to blame!
