Alva Highland Games

What a tough race this one is! Incredibly steep, easily matching the gradient of Beinn Each but not quite as high. Must have been in the region of 1700' ascent in a two mile race. Drew, Hamilton and myself turned up to compete against a quality field including Dan Whitehead, Stuart Simpson and eventual winner Stewart Whitlie (he walked away with £150 for his efforts).

Drew reccied the course beforehand and managed to trip up on the exceptionally steep descent, and thus ruled himself out of the "fun"; instead he cheered us on as a spectator.

Hamilton and I were seperated by only two or three places according to Lynne, and I managed to stay ahead in a time of 29.22.

Yes indeed Blair, tough enough. As vertiginous an ascent as you would hope to meet, saw us clambering up an impossible face.Drew, having reccied so thoroughly that he was reluctantly forced onto the sidelines, nursing a badly pulled R.Quads muscle. The only sane one there.I must have been trying to join him on the golf course overlooking the hill,as half-way down, terra firma dramatically changed to terribly unfirm, turning 180 degrees looking back up the hill & encapsulated by a large chasm, thrashing around in the bracken.Naturally, protesting nothing was amiss,an altruistic competitor hauled me out of the abyss. So again it must be a case of looking good until he started racing.(Just like the golfer lining up his put:It was looking good till he hit it).Well done Blair-so it's best not to recce the course.
