Fyrish Hill Race & Fun Run

Me, Duncan and Swaz represented Westies on a fine sunny day at the Evanton village fete.

Swaz was breaking in his new spinnaker sized club vest after having biked out with his burd ,Ernie, for a wee warm up.

I was just trying not to break down in my vest while Duncan was determined to break loose in his in the fun run!!

After about the first 10 mins of fast-ish forest track running ,gently uphill in the leading pack of 5,I slowly drifted to the front (which I was trying to avoid!) as the gradient steepened considerably.

There was a lot of puffing and panting from behind and I put in a wee spell going up a fire break to open a gap.

I pushed harder the closer I got to the top and had time for a good look around athe fantastic scenery from the bizarre stone arches monument.

When I turned second was trying hard, but was at least a couple of minutes down already and I put in another wee burst just to make sure I could relax down the main forest tracks to the finish.

Ernie was setting a great pace going up and a good minute ahead of Swaz who was still plodding on in about 7th?

The course has changed since I had done it 2 years ago and is lengthen a fair bit, so the run back to the village green in the heat with a 1K gradual climb turned out to be really really hard and I afforded a sneaky look over my shoulder just in case.

No worries, cruised in and enjoyed a dousing of cold water on the line!!

However Duncan was first Westie back (3rs time he's done that to me!!) having stormed round the one and a bit mile fun run in 20 minutes inisting he had won.....in 20th place!!

Ernie came striding in looking quite relaxed mumbling something about not liking hills...only roads...can't descend....mumble mumble.

Not a bad 1st place for a roadie - take heed Marcus.

After a considerable delay Swaz appeared from the wrong direction having taken a scenic detour at lost at least one place in the process, but happy none the less.

I spent all my winnings on the shows and burgers afterwards and treated Duncan to a pint on the way home!!!

Great wee race, watch your summer league venues next year.

Results when they come...

Swaz, I remember racing your burd Ernie round the Cupar 8 Mile Road Race recently and can vouch that she is fit, I mean fast, though I did manage just to beat her. Go for it boy!
