Cort-ma Law

A successful night if your surname was Crowe.

48 turned out on beautiful conditions... perfect in fact. Warm, dry and a slight breeze that meant we had no midges. Female participation was up on last year too! Three juniors took part in a shorter race, won by Crowe Junior (perhaps we could have a report from a junior?).

After Des Crowe of Shettleston triumphed (as a veteran), there was an exciting rush of bodies for the next four places, with Stuart Simpson of Ochil taking the runners-up spot, very closely followed by Alan Smith of Deeside, John Kennedy of Maryhill Harriers and Brian Roberston of Arran Runners; all within 5 seconds of each other.

Ronnie Gallagher entertained the timekeepers with a jolly jig as he crossed the line in 6th.

New Westerlands recruit Martin Reid finished well in 17th place in a time of 61.00 minutes ahead of first male over-50 Ross McInroy of Helensburgh in a time of 61.51.

Ian McManus of Irvine held off Drew Turnbull of Westerlands to win the Super-Duper (M60) prize.

Alison Winship of Garscube was the ladies victor in a time of 67.37 with Westerlands' Valerie Brunton a mintute behind.

Westerlands won both team prizes. The men's team was David Riach (54.06), Chris Upson (57.34) and Johannes Courthal (58.34) and the womens team was Val Brunton (68.50), Katrina Miller (70.00) and Ana Talbot (73.23). Well done all!

Emergency back-up was again provided by the wonderful Trossachs Search and Rescue, so a huge thank you to them.

And the most important people, without which the event would never get staged, were the marshals; so I'd like to offer a big cuddle to everyone who helped: Charlie, Muffy, Gillian, Pauline, Rosie, Graham, Anne, Drew, Gibson, Don, Pat and last, but certainly not least, my right-hand woman Margaret!

Thanks Blair for letting us run a junior race again this year. Pity the numbers were so poor but perhaps if we put it officially in the calander next year, we will get a better response. The race was easily won by Jamie Crowe, followed by two junior westie stalwarts, Fraser Reid and Jennifer "Tweaker" Stokoe.

There were a few midges in the gully but fortunately nothing like reported swarms of previous years. I tried to get a few photos while trying to direct runners to the best crossing points but most were blurred or just grass. I've added the only decent ones but I got mixed up with the captions. Need more practice or lessond from Charlie!
