This race just went up ... and up ... and then up some more, although this was hardly surprising considering it was an uphill race. 2200ft ascent in 4 ½ miles. What did surprise us was a triple crossing of the Glen Lochsie Burn cascading down from the hills in full flow. Little did we realise when the race organiser said full waterproof body cover was essential that this was for our impending paddle. At least the paddling was a break from going up!

The pack started at a fine pace with David getting a good start and mixing it with the front runners. Cat followed some way behind. As the ascent and burn crossings took their toll the pack strung out along the track. The leader, who had flown in especially for the race, built up a huge lead which he held till the end - finishing well ahead of everyone else.

After a good start David had continued to hold his place near the front and reached the top, and the finish, in a very respectable 5th place (although he was beaten by a woman!). Cat finished some way behind.

Once we got to the top - it was over. No crazy demonic descending, just a chance to enjoy a fine view of the Cairngorms and take a leisurely saunter back down the hill. At the prize giving Westies walked away with two prizes- 3rd senior man and, astonishingly, 2nd senior woman. A good day.
