Balloch to Clydebank Half Marathon
Well if the rumours are true and this is going to possibly be the last running of this great race, then at least it went out with a bang weatherwise! Basically perfect running conditions of cool and crisp, dry sunny weather. From a marshal / spectator point of view, I had good fun 'supervising' three lads from the Tullachan (sp?) Trust, dishing out bottles of water at the ten mile mark in Old Kilpatrick. The van offloading the water only turned up five minutes in front of the lead runners so me and my old maw had a bit of a frantic job cutting open crates and opening bottles for the boys to hand out. Managed it just in time and even got to snap the 3 Westie participants running through and socialite/2nd claimer Del Piero in the old blue and yellow. Plenty of other Westies out marshalling who no doubt Dave will mention in his report and should be interesting to see how the final Winter League points tally up with both Drew and Don being out today!

As Charlie reported, it was a grand day for running; better than for standing about marshalling. Needless to say, Westies 'fishuls performed magnificently in their marshalling duties. Well done to Drew for basically conning Margaret into bawling & shouting at runners crossing the road at Dunglass Roundabout. A fine job was also done by Isabel, Hamilton and Liz who succesfully brought the A82 to a standstill. Charlie and his Mum did a great job at the water station; it helps if you have water at a water station though! Patricia managed to only swear at the runners a couple of times as they entered Clydebank. And Muffy and Catriona threw caution to the wind as they guided the runners through a busy traffic junction in Dalmuir without getting mown down by the local boy racers. And, all in a good cause; the 10 marshalls provided to the race will ensure a healthy contribution to club coffers.
Oh aye...and we had some runners too, albeit disappointingly only three, given that the weather was pretty superb. Blair decided to do a half-marathon this weekend, in Inverness of all places! Don was first Westie home; no wonder he was looking pleased in the photo; he had been trailing that female for 7 miles. That dark horse Nathan needs to get out and race more. He finished less than a minute behind Don in his first half-marathon and made it look like a stroll. And, well done to Drew; by finishing the Balloch to Clydebank, he gets himself 2 extra bonus points for competing in all 14 nominated winter league races; a magnificent achievement.
