Carnethy 5 2005
A windy day with the odd shower and bright spell that saw 26 (I think) running Westies and at least 4 supporters. Full report to follow from some obliging big W participant!

Ho Hum... you would think that good ol' Captain Charlie would be in the best place to write a full report, seeing as he was sitting on his ass watching us all wheezing up Scald Law and careering down Carnethy towards the end.
Anyway, what can you say about this race other than it's tremendous. All I can report is that I hate with a vengeance the tussocks coming down Carnethy at the finish. The only satisfaction I take is that clearly Ivor from HBT hates it even more than I do. Our incompetence in being passed by dozens on the descent was only matched by Gibbie, whose wheezing a couple of places behind alerted me and prepared me for a (succesful) sprint finish at the end. And my favourite bit must be the smashing run from West Kip over to The Howe, before the final ascent.
Thanks also to the support ( the aforementioned Captain Snapper, John H, Goodol Grimorr.....oh aye and Captainess Liz, although she didn't pay me much attention on account of the fact that she seemed to be shouting at the Germanic looking no 499 ahead of me at the time! And him not wearing a Westies vest into the bargain either)
Finally, there are rumours of heresy and treachery abounding. I have it on reasonable authority that a certain Hon. member of our esteemed club will be attending a ritualistic and pagan ceremony (ie the club dinner) of a brown-vested tribe from the east next weekend. Furthermore, I hear that he has been asked to speak at the said event. Will he venture to the Crook Inn unprotected? Will he spill forth the secrets of eternal youth, known only to Messrs Turnbull & Fleming. Will he end up with his back to the Wall? I fear he will return a changed man.

Amanda, glad you found the pictures of great interest. I also read with great interest that since you are moving to Glasgow, you already recognise a Bellahouston Road Runners vest, as mentioned above, so you must have a vested interest with them, no pun intended. As you can see, the Bella-who runner is in front of ours and must be better so they are serious runners for serious people. If you are serious then join them for overlandy runs near big benny things. If you ain't serious then join us for a training sesh as detailed on this site. Yours.
