Derwentwater 10
Fresh from cuffing Mark in the relays on Saturday, I lined up with 500+ runners crushed into Keswick market square at Sunday lunchtime. The usual mad sprint start, before things started to settle down. First mile of 5:31 seemed a bit unlikely.
The route does a clockwise loop of Derwentwater, so the worst of the hills are in the second half. I was vaguely hoping to do sub-60, but seeing as I went through halfway at 29:16 it was looking unlikely. The 6th mile has a big hill which knocks around a minute off your pace.
After skirting around under Catbells there's a pleasant enough run in back through Portinscale, before a long straight flat finish, where you can steadily ramp up the speed to a sharp left turn and sprint finish. Didn't quite do enough for sub-60.
1. Stephen Hepples 50:16
2. Haggai Chepkwony 50:28
3. Simon Booth 53:13
28. Chris Upson 1:00:26
539 runners

Sorry about that. I think I've done 60 races so far this year, so slightly over quota.
