Jedburgh Half Marathon
Sunday 31st October.
A nice course, only spoiled by desperate stomach pains from before halfway until the end.
Quite undulating to start along a back road beside the Teviot before picking up the main Kelso road. Then almost completely flat until mile 11 where you cross the Teviot and climb up to the A68 for a downhill run into the finish.
Started OK with first mile sub-6, but then felt sluggish and dropped to about 19th place by halfway (40:45). Damon, with a handful of children, gave me a shout at mile 7 to start reeling them in. So despite the inner turmoil in my guts I dug in and started picking them off, taking about 4 places in the last mile.
1. ? 1:11
2. D Wright HBT 1:14
3. Andy Laycock 1:17
10. Chris Westies 1:22:24
nominally 600 runners

After this race, Chris spent 4 hours on my sofa, wincing and groaning at the pain in his guts. In fact it was so unpleasant a spectacle that I was moved to take the dog (yep - another one!) for an hour in the hills. Surprised to find Chris still alive and watching the Tweenies when I got back,
Can he have some extra points for effort in the face of adversity please?

I'm starting a book on how long Damons new dug will last. The last 2 have been dispatched by a train and a car respectively so my money is on a Twin Otter Cessna taking it out around 3.45pm on 11th of next month, while out on a training run.But it will still last longer than Damon in a long run!!
