Coledale Horseshoe

8th June 2004

9 miles / 3000ft

Braithwaite, nr Keswick.

A sticky airless evening saw 100+ runners line up for this evening Lakes classic.

Up Grisedale Pike, across Coledale Hause, a very steep climb up Crag Hill, then long undulating running back with a short final climb over Barrow, before a heel-burning descent down smooth short grass back into Braithwaite.

Borrowdale legend Billy Bland - who has recently come out of retirement - drew level with me on the final descent, but I did just enough to hold him off.

Both men's and women's records were broken.

1. Simon Booth Borrowdale 1:11 (record)

2. Alan Bowness CFR 1:14

3. Mark Roberts Borrowdale 1:16

4. Nick Fish Ambleside 1:17

25. Chris Upson Westies 1:29:38

26. Billy Bland Borrowdale 1:29:48

28. Louise Sharp Keswick 1:30 (1st lady - record)

100+ runners
