Carnethy 5

1987

Good job there's no kissing gates on this course / never know what you might catch from casual fell running.

Ian won the race ... to Penicuik by 20 minutes but had 1 hour start on us.

Right, onto the serious stuff. A telling off from some lads from a sassench team called Ambleside was just the excuse I needed for a slow climb from the start, which rate of progress I easily maintained throughout. A real frozen Bog Trotters course, but where were they? Never saw the rest of our lads, just lots of pseudo Westerlanders who had erased their W's. Should be a rule against colour copying.

Now that I'm competing on equal terms with Mr Campbell, ie shoes with 6" rubber blocks sticking out the bottom, I can show my massive superiority nae bother at at all. ie I trounced him na na na na na. I also trounced the Trotters for the second week in a row. Hardest part of the day will be renegotiating my way out the car park.

'I thoroughly recommend tanking up Dumgoyne the Wednesday before a race' - Ken Smith.

Tonight activity for myself will be involve a stout piece of best hempen rope with a nice loop on the end thrown over a convenient rafter, however there is a bright side despite Mr Calders absolute trouncing of me, I was nearly quarter of an hour faster than last year, just as well Calder can drive as he's not getting a lift from me from now on.
