Tour of the Bens

Murdo and I took advantage of the fine weather on Saturday to plod round Bens Ledi, Vane and Sheann (aka Beinn an t-Sidhein).

(Ask Murdo for the official pronunciation)

Start/finish from southern end of Loch Lubnaig.

Approx. 16 miles, 5200ft.

Superb sunny weather with hills plastered white, but incredibly hard going from Ledi to Vane. Every step an effort in knee-deep soft snow.

Hills looking like the Bernese Oberland.

The final hill, Ben Sheann, has multiple tops of similar height - from each top, another one looks higher. Eventually we reckoned we were at the highest point (definitely not the "summit" of the fell race) and cut straight down towards Strathyre through some interesting felled forest.

The final 5 miles was a bit of a grind along the Callander cycle path - but great Jura training!

Definitely not a route for German pink blouses!
