Nigel Barge 3 January 2004

Exactly one fifth of the (paid) Westies members (you can tell this is a

*treasurers* report) turned up for the first (road) race of the year.

The organisers cunningly tried to reduce the field by moving

registration from the time honoured John Paul Academy to some faceless

sports (?) centre behind Asda. But it clearly takes more than that to

thwart a Westie.

The race itself was relatively uneventful - no hail, rain or other usual

accompaniments, though there was the ubiquitous burst pipe and ice at

Dawsholm. Nor was there a howling gale - though Liz became a howling

gal by the end (the ubiquitous stitch, poor Liz).

Thanks to our official photographers Mark and Margaret. The latter had

tense moment trying to take a photo of Gremorr as he fumbled down the

front of his tights (I hope that you didn't get those photos developed

at Boots!). The excuse was, apparently, that he was "looking for his

hat". Try that one with the procurator fiscal... (I believe that she

joined the club last night..)

I haven't found any official results yet, apologies if I've any errors

in the finishing order. Congrats to all who ran, and double points

should be awarded to all those who ran in regulation kit (your pale blue

non-regulation tshirt was noted, Liz, even if it was under a vest).

Westies finishing order:

Jon not so Slowe

Steffen

Gibbie

Donald

Ana

Muffy

Liz

Gremorr

Ian

Helen
