Carbeth to Dumgoyne Festive race

McColl Triumph Marred by Low Turnout.

An awesome performance by Mark McColl yesterday in the Westies Festive Carbeth to Dumgoyne Race was marred by the low turnout of competitors. Mark was clearly psyched up for the event from the start, tearing off at full speed from the gun while sporting his new mop-top haircut.

The event is designed for those club members who wish to race yet avoid any navigational decisions. You just turn up and run. Mark ran an impressive 27minutes for the 5 mile trail, despite the lack of competition to spur him on. In fact he was the sole Westie in the race, all of the others opting to run the Westies Festive Handicap, by coincidence also starting simultaneously at Carbeth.

McColl was clearly thrilled by his performance and showed no disappointment that his arch-rival Nigel "Cheater" Scott had opted for the alternative race. " I feel that the Carbeth to Dumgoyne event suits my style and talents", he said. " I don't see the point in junctions and turn-offs. Just give me a straight out-and-back anyday".

McColl is next scheduled to run in the Nigel Barge this weekend, although he may well do the Maryhill to St George's Cross, scheduled for the same time, instead. It will be a late decision, depending how Mark feels at the Dawsholm turnoff!
