Big Al's return to Premier League cross country continued yesterday at the GU Road Race as he registered his first ever performance points. In a classic 3-man showdown, Al managed to hold off Drew whilst narrowly failing to catch Ian by a short stomach. The Honourable Westies icon now lies within tripping distance of Nigel, Blair and Archie in the Winter League with 5 points, more than he has achieved cumulatively in all the previous leagues.

Elsewhere, following his Scally upset last week, Dave took advantage of Nigel and Mark's sojourn to Tinto to record maximum points in the men's race.After overhauling Charlie at the half-way point, Dave hung on for grim death up the switchback hill and back into Garscube estate to beat Charlie by 9 seconds. Sandy ran an excellent race, spurred on with his new disposable racing shoes, to finish ahead of Archie and Brian Edridge.

Only Muffy and Liz turned out for the women's league with Muffy winning by a margin of only 7 seconds.

Dave has leaped into the lead in the men's league, 3 points ahead of Mark and Sandy. However there is a long snake of possibilities afterwards. Muffy has max. points in the women's league, largely by dint of the lack of numbers. There's still opportunities for others to make their mark.

Next race is the EK 10K in 2 weeks time, followed closely by the DAAA Champs in Dumbarton and the National Relays in Cumbernauld. By that time there will surely be some big changes?
