Moray Half Marathon - 31st August 2003

A last minute decision and I was on the bus from Elgin Town Hall to Gordonstoun School for the Moray Half. From there the half-pinters join the full bhoonas who've already been going for an hour and half. When you join the main loop there's a nice steady stream of marathon runners to pick off, giving a delusion of speed. I found it especially easy to overtake the guys cramped up and walking the final mile.

Simon Pride comfortably won the race in 69 minutes. He was completely out of sight before we'd even left the school grounds. I struggled round in 1:26:32.

15 minutes or so after I'd finished, Kate Jenkins came storming in - looking in a high state of distress - to claim 1st lady in the full marathon, winning the event for the 6th time in 7 years. Not her fastest time (3:09), but a good effort after being caught by the 2nd lady with 3 miles to go, and just managing to hold her off.
