Pentland Skyline

Manor Water was on a rainy Saturday ... the Pentland Skyline was largely in bright sunshine!

Angela Mudge took the "Man-or-Mouse" prize for best aggregate time, and also broke the ladies' Skyline record!

Lindsay belted away from me on way up Turnshouse but later dropped out with turned ankle.

I got off to a speedy start with heavy legs from Manor Water. Reached the top of Caerketton (on the way out) level with Adrian Davis. Not very sensible move since Adrian came 5th eventually. Ran with Lindsay down to Flotterstone but couldn't keep up with him. Legs feeling drained and mind feeling like packing it in. I proceeded to drop places until things stabilised at Turnhouse. Saw Andy Spenceley sitting on the grass on the way up Turnhouse. He had decided to pack it in.

Warm sunshine.

Saw Damon at top of Carnethy taking photos. He spurred me on calling me a "big poof" for walking uphill. He then jogged effortlessly beside me as I slogged up Scald Law. Ran in a bunch of five over the Kips to Black Hill. Ronnie breezed past on way up Black Hill, clearly having a day off.

I lost the plot coming off Black Hill, and was seriously fading on way up Bells Hill with low blood sugar. Could see JBF battling to catch me. Life-saving blast of lucozade and Mars on top of Bells Hill got me going again. Paced JBF over next 2 hills. And then put on a sprint over Allermuir and Caerketton leaving JBF far behind and making up 2 places. Just missed the 3-hour mark. Did 3:04:06. But pleased to get round after a shakey first third.

PS. Mr Millen: Winner of the well-known "first finisher with a beard" prize!!

(not joking). Kate also got a prize for knowing that 229 is a prime number, and correctly guessing what Richard Robertson calls his dog ... the answer was of course "ya bastud".
