Morven

Three Westies turned out for the final Hill Running championship race at Morvern (5miles, 2100ft), north of Aboyne - Ronnie, already the winner of the vets category, Murdo, out with the intention of remaining third in his

category and me, hoping that Fiona Dahl wouldn't turn up to let me win my category. Unfortunately she did and I had lost the fight from the start (I needed the race to be 20 miles not 5!).

Not a huge turnout in general from the 'southern clubs' bar Shettleston who were determined not to let Carnethy have it all their own way, but lots of locals. It was a glorious day everywhere bar a cloud sitting on top of Morvern. It was a hard climb up to 600m then in to the mist and rain to

reach the top at over 800m before heading back down, over a bit of bog and rough track back to the start and the sunshine, with the cloud miraculously disappearing as soon as the race stopped!

Ronnie was first Westies home in 7th, Murdo was third super-vet and I ended up 5th lady. Shettleston won the team prize with Carnethy not even having a team out. More to the point, no ladies teams managed to finish the championship so just think if Westies wimmen had managed to get teams out

we'd have won....next year?!?!?
