West Highland Way

Dave R. stumbled/cursed/whinged his way to a very respectable 26 hours with myself, Mary and Keith force feeding and nagging him all the way.

Captain Chuck did indeed at Balmaha for reasons as yet unknown.

Kate ,who entered the night before !!!!!!, and had no support runner!, was in joint lead for a big chunk of the race, then dropped back to 2nd for a spell before sadly dropping out at Lundavra road end with only 8 miles to go - maybe she didn't want to risk missing last orders! Good effort Kate. Never mind second place doesn't suit you anyway.

The weather was not bad to start with - drizzle and grey ,with nice wee spells of sun and blue sky around Tyndrum, but from Vicky Bridge onwards was minging wet and cold wind more or less to the finish.

Well done to all who tried.

This year it was the wet highland way. There were 72 starters, but quite a few drowned or dropped out I think. Can't remember who won - I was too sleepy to take it in - but he was from Dumfries and took 18 or 19 hours. Kate Jenkins stormed along in second or (I think) first place for most of it, but unfortunately dropped out 8 miles from the finish.

Of our 2 starters, Charlie dropped out and I finished about 14th or 15th, in 25:58 minutes, 3 and 3/4 hours slower than last time. I think the main factors were lack of fitness, lack of discipline about eating - forcing Keith and Manny to adopt the foie gras method of support - and letting myself get too cold over Rannoch. My feet got more torn up than before because it was so wet; if I ever do it again, I'd probably use PBs for much more of it. Thanks very much for superb (and patient!) support from Manny and Keith.
