Edinburgh Cross Country

Here goes...

Good weather conditions, no wind or rain..only the threat of a light drizzle.

I always knew that Edinburgh would be slightly colder than Glasgow and fully prepared for this by bringing along lots of warm clothing and a translation book just in case I met any foreign internationals.

The atmosphere was electric which was the reason why I entered and is a shame why many of our local races can never be as enjoyable as the one on Saturday.

The best of the best was there which meant I had to run like hell if I ever had a chance of making it a decent race. Before the race started I had a chance to go over the course and look at any hidden traps such as the burn which would be negotiated 4 times and the hill too. Yes!! 5 times, 5 laps of sheer pain, apart from the ones standing on top of the Haggis Crag or whatever it was called.

The gun went off and I quickly found myself struggling to keep up with the leading pack in the first mile but I had plenty of support from people shouting at me with "Westies" being uttered at the top of the climb. Not sure if it was Ronnie but thanks anyway.

I had a rocky first two laps before becoming settled in the final 3 laps where Michael Diver overtook me. Enjoyed the battle with Mr Diver in the race but he pasted me in the climb section and the descent but I had the pleasure to lap some runners on the final lap.

From my observations Hollyrood Park is an excellent area to train for hill reps with some excellent trails etc.

Graeme..you have it all !!
