Braid Hills

It's not easy to file a race report as Westies' back-marker (AND that includes Dick Wall - again!!). The wummins' race included only one Westy Wumman, ie Ana, who not only managed a respectable place in the 20s in a fast field, but stayed on at the Braid Hills trig point to cheer on the men! Thanks Ana!

A good turnout from the Westy men for the crunch crash of the generations - would Mighty Mark with his customised spikes outstrip Galloping Gibby? It turned out that he did, though Gibby had the consolation of claiming what Don tells me is his scalp. The remaining Westy places: Archie; Steffen; Brian Elridge; Blair; Dick Wall (whose vest would have been brown anyway in this mudbath); and last and definitely least Westy, myself, some 60 yards behind Dick in about 45 minutes. For a fuller set of statistics, try the EUH&H website: www.eusu.ed.ac.uk/clubs/hairies. Don't know when they will post the full "rundown".

Some consolations: it's always nice to hurtle down the steep bit, and plough through the muddy bits, faster than those young Uni. X-country runners!

For those of you wanting the stats on this race, here goes:

30th, Mark McColl, 37.07; 60th, Gibson Fleming, 39.47; 62nd, Don Reid, 39.55; 84th, Archie Cameron, 41.57; 95th, Steffen Gorgas, 43.27; 98th, Brian Edridge, 43.46; 111st, Blair Millen, 44.45; 112nd, Dick wall, 44.53; 117th, Graeme Orr, 45.13. And how can I clean my nice new New Balance shoes? Boo hoo!

PS oh aye, and Ana was 31st in the wummins' race in 22.24, ie she'd have beaten several Westies men (including me) if she'd done a 2nd lap at the same lick! About a minute behind Bog Trot Debbie, supervet supreme and my yardstick of wummin running. Follow, follow.....I sometimes try to!
