Bennachie
Ended up going north on Saturday night after work and doing Bennachie on Sunday. Had a superb race with Dan W, absolutely neck and neck for the last 4 miles. The race starts along a forestry track then climbs onto
the plateau. Dan took the lead just as the runners left the track onto the first climb. By the first top it was Dan then me, which is how it stayed to the final top at about the half-way stage (Mither Tap), where I got a few yards past Dan on the descent. I led through the woods and up to the final "road" secton. Last 1.5 miles on a flat forestry track and Dan kept trying to break me, but kept coming back at him. Unfortunately, he got 5 seconds on me at the finish, but it was absolutely brilliant! Must be one of the most enjoyable races I've had for a long time.
Performance of the day must go to Claire (Miller) who has been training all year without racing. Claire took 3 mins off the women's record to finish 4th overall. To put this in perspective, there were about 100 runners and it was the final race in the Deeside championship. So there were a lot of blokes with disjointed noses!
1. D. Whitehead 58.19
2. R.G. 58.24
4. C. Miller 61.??
