Christmas Pub Run

What a great Westies night out that was, well I thought so anyway. Almost 20 festive Westies gathered at the Bon Accord, festooned in flashing lights, festive ears, tinsel and all sorts of Santa hats. With the kitty money safely tucked away I made a dash for it but they all followed me so I had to lead them to the nearby State Bar for a selection of fine festive ales. It was then off for a wee hill rep up to Garnethill and over the M8. We trotted down Woodlands Road passing the Arlington Bar and instead opting for the famous Halt Bar. It was empty so I think we made the barman’s night as we enjoyed another selection of ales and took in the lovely ambience of the place. Beer downed we were off into Kelvingrove to visit Inn Deep, a William Bros’ brewery pub right on the River Kelvin, where another great selection of ales was consumed outside.

Another pub ticked off, we headed in to the dark of Kelvingrove Park, up to the monument at the top to enjoy the great views of Glasgow, and the great taste of the surprise Glenmorangie I had brought. Suitably warmed up by that we headed round the Kelvingrove Art Gallery to the great find that was the new Brewdog Pub across the road. A fantastic selection of ales was on tap, and since time was running out before the curry I felt obliged to ask for full pints this time, which no one seemed to object to.

All beer-d up and starving  the by now very merry Westies headed straight for the Shenaz curry house, where a great night of curry and more beer rounded things off. Thanks everyone for coming along and making such a brilliant night of it - definitely now a regular fixture in years to come. If the numbers keep increasing next year at this rate then I might have to consider hiring a coach for us all and just missing out the “run” bit of the Pub Run, what do you think??!!

Excellent evening. Thanks, JD. The weaving and wandering routes added interest and kept us on our toes. I didn't expect hill reps sessions into Garnethill and KG Park. Whisky stop at the monument was brill. Such a different perspective on life being up there in the dark observing the world (if you ignore the teenagers on the benches!), Def on the calendar for next year.
