University Road Race

10 November

Following my outline report on the Scally, here's another Orr's eye view of the ongauns at Garscube yesterday. Weather was dry-ish but blustery; over 200 entrants, numbers slightly down from previous years perhaps because of an international and vets' event in Falkirk. Four Westies at the start - me, Drew, Chris Menhennet, and a certain StrutherBruther, distinguished by his prehistoric Westy vest and his fringe cut also different from Dr. Ian's manicured locks.

This time I wisely started more slowly than at the Scally. My race strategy is to try to catch a Westy woman (last year Muffy, last week Elspeth, yesterday Chris) and I nearly succeeded, getting to within 2 places of the mascara'd one in the last half-mile. However, Chris eventually finished some 20 seconds and 4? places ahead, both of us narrowly missing the 35 minute mark. Drew was a furthr minute back; I think the StrutherBruther was just under 35 minutes.

Cheers!
