Damon, having built up a commanding lead by the hill summit, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in that manner for which he is becoming famous! Remember the Kilpatricks last year? In fact, with the Kilpatricks on next Wednesday, maybe Damon is just preparing himself for another credibility knock??

To find this race, one has to drive around the salubrious schemes of upper Greenock, but once you get there, the course is a rather fine 5.5 miles, mostly track, but with some hellish climbs. The Westies turnout was well rewarded, with only Manny and Dave not receiving prizes; not that we were complaining...much, were we Manny? The first three times were all within the previous course record. Damon had built up an unassailable lead by the half-way point, only to let road racer Tom Tippen catch him on the descent before pipping him at the post. Elsewhere, Manny almost caught Brian on the descent, just falling back in the last couple of hundred metres. Muffy finished the race with a 9 year old boy in tow; she seems to have developed a penchant for younger men, but this was ridiculous!!

Well done to Greenock Glenpark for organising a fine race. The wee clubhouse they have is also rather fine, I have to say. The only thing missing was the team prize, which we would have won!!
