Christmas Pub Run

A bevvy of brave Westies turned up for the first ever Westies Christmas Pub Run - leader JD, Paula, Jamie, Sarah, Duncan, James, Owen, Matt, Cameron. Grimm popped in to wave us off at the start, to reappear for the curry later. A warm-up beer was enjoyed in a busy Bon Accord before the pack wandered down to the city centre to the Pot Still, and then down near the River Clyde to the Scotia Bar for a festive ale. We then ran through Glasgow Green to the West Brewery for their lovely brewed-on-the-premises Red and Dunkel beers, so good Owen had to have a whole pint all to himself. Lightweight youngster James couldn't keep up the pace so headed home at this point. Well hydrated the rest of us left the East End for the Merchant City and Blackfriars Pub where "Island Hoppin'" went down well and the new Westies game of "blowing the bauble" was invented by Paula - check out the photos and make up your own mind who won! A final dash through the Christmas lights of George Square took us to the CAMRA Pub of the Year - The State for the final leg of the mystery tour. In 2 hours 5 miles were ran, 5 pubs were patronised and lots of fun was had. Afterwards we had a few recovery pints of Indian lager to wash down the final Westies Curry of the year at the Shenaz. Jaipuri Jammi was crowned Westies Curry Champion 2012, before we all headed home for a well deserved rest. It's hard work having so much fun.

It was a great laugh, thank you John for organising this, and leading us astray around a varied collection of Glasgow pubs. At one point I heard someone in the street describe us as “joggers”, I was hoping at least to be a thought of as a partially drunk runner

Beer of the night for me was West Dunkel and my favourite whisky was the Ardbeg, I could still taste it in my mouth all day Thursday, it is very peaty!

Do not think I could have managed many more pubs as the desire for food, especially curry, was beginning to take hold at The State.

Top marks to Jaipuri Jamie for winning the curry league.
