Black Rock 5

Following some planning at the Esquire last Wednesday, Graeme, Archie and I headed east to Kinghorn on Dick Wall's promise that this was possibly the finest race in the world.

And so it possibly was. Probably the best out-and-back race in the world. Definitely the best HBT-organised out-and-back race in the world. 5ish(or a bit less) miles along roads, across sand, round a rock with a piper on top (plagiarised from the old Glen Fruin Race?), back to Kinghorn and up a nasty wee hill right at the end. The weather was magic, the water lapped around our shoes and we enjoyed the free Greenmantle at the end. Time for a swift drink in the 'Auld Hoose', race sponsors, before heading back west.

Don't know the positions yet, but we were all pleased with our performances. I was just over 28 minutes, Archie dipped in just on the half hour, and Graeme came in at 35 minutes.

And the added bonus, according to Archie, was the abundance of women runners with lithe bodies and neat bums. I couldn't possibly comment.

All races should be like this!
