Bellahouston 4k Cross Country
5th November
The largest ever field for the Bellahouston 4k Cross Country with 201 finishers in the men's race.
John Denovan started strongly and I never got anywhere near him the whole race. Niall also started strongly but with Dublin Marathon in his legs he faded, and I passed him after 1 kilometre. Halfway round I suddenly felt really jaded and dropped places to Greig Glendinning and Denis Williams, and was caught by Niall again. I was also in danger of losing places to the first 2 M50s with Gerry Gaffney and Alex Chisholm right on my shoulders. With 150 metres to go I suddenly wound up my final effort and managed to pass Scott Martin, Tommy McDonald, Niall, Denis Williams, Rory Leslie and Marc McColl in the last few metres.
Westies:
90. John Denovan, 14:48
99. Chris Upson, 15:01
105. Niall McAlinden, 15:05

Lots of seriously fast runners there. Good to see the Westies pushing each other on. JD2 seems to be intent on establishing himself as the fastest XC Westie...should be some good competition in the months ahead.

I thought the wheels had come off when I picked up that Calf injury a few days after the West District XC but cutting down my running to 1 reps session and 1 race a week has helped although my speed hit a plateau and the races got harder again.
I'm back onto 2 reps sessions a week now and I've started Kettle Bells so hopefully I'll start speeding up again :-)
Killer loops at Kelvingrove Park today should set me up nicely for the next XC.
