Results

A good day out for the Westies teams at Cumbernauld. Weather not too bad. Grey, overcast and windy, but fairly mild and not raining.

The women's race kicked off first with HBT coming home 1 and 2 on the first Leg. Jennifer McLean of Edinburgh AC reeled them in on Leg 2 to set Emily Stewart off in the lead on Leg 3 to run the fastest women's time of 15:03.

In the men's race, Shettleston lead after Leg 1 with Michael Gillespie finishing first. By Leg 3, Central AC were in pole position with John Newsom handing over to Ross Houston for the anchor leg, with a reasonable gap on Shettleston, Inverclyde and Vicky Park who all came in together. But on Leg 4 Craig Ruddy blasted the fastest Leg of the day with 12:55 to take Inverclyde into the lead. Central AC appeared to be assured of 2nd place but Ross Houston was agonisingly closed down by Tewoldeberhan Menisteab in the final straight and edged Ross right on the line to grab 2nd place for Shettleston.

For the Westie men's A-Team, John Denovan came home in 41st place on Leg 1, I then held position on Leg 2 by losing 3 and gaining 3, Tom Smith then picked off 6 places on Leg 3, and Niall picked off another 6 on Leg 4 to run our fastest time of the day and bring us home in 29th position.
