Westies Rule the Killin Raffle Roost
Westies were magnificent on Sat night at the raffle held as part of the cracking weekend's hill racing in Killin. We just couldn't stop winning. The food was excellent, the ceilidh great fun, and the real ale in the pub, from Fyne Ales, went down a treat. And, yes there was some running also. On Sat there was a great, windy and claggy horseshoe of a race up the Tarmachan ridge, 6 miles and about 2000 feet. New Westie Robert was first home, followed by me, and Brenda and Manny enjoyed a romantic twosome the whole way round, while Paula took Maisie for a wee hike almost to the top. I think Brian Brennan was running also, but I didn't see where he finished. On Sunday it was a short sharp blast up from the Village Hall. I decided to run at 3 minutes notice so played catch-up for the first few minutes. 20 or so minutes to the top, where Westie Helen was marshalling, and a great runnable descent of about 12 minutes, rounded off a great weekend's running. Manny was 2nd, Robert 4th, dunno where I was, and Brenda had a good race too. Brennan was there also, but again I can't remember where he finished, bit of a mystery that. A definite weekend to put in the diary for next year, £15 for 2 races, 2 lunches, dinner and a ceilidh and all for good causes.

...and in the sunshine too, judging from the photos! I had 2 days of rain in Lochaber...which just confirms that I had successfully located Lochaber!
Well done to all at Killin.

A fantastic weekend with two great wee races and I can completely understand why JD has no recollection of where I finsihed in the races ......for the very simple reason that he was still running on both occasions ..........
"Winston Churchill ! Maggie Thatcher ! ......William Wallace ! .....your boy JD took a te....rr...ible beating .....etc etc"
Might not happen again so I better make the most of it ....but you better watch out JD .....Paula was definitely unimpressed as you heaved your aging carcase over the line and thoughts of changing you in for a younger model can't have been too far away .......maybe Ian McManus ? At least you'll be a V60 before too long and things might start to look to look up mate.
I heartily recommend these races to each and every Westie .....come along next year to take part in the now renamed "JD gets humped twice" Killin racing weekend.
Two humps ......does that make you a Bactrian camel JD ?

Yes Brian,Your right JD is too old and a bad looser! Dumped indeed! All the new excuses are keeping me amused though! A great weekend though even if i was not fit to race! Maisie and i had a great time! Thoroughly recommend it.

I was in Killin fresh(?) from the x-country relays in Helensburgh to go the Ceilidh with a few old friends from the village. What a fantastic weekend it turned out to be. After the highly sociable ceilidh, Sunday brought a short, sharp hike up Sron A'Chlaichan to clear the head. From the top, I enjoyed what must be the best view of Loch Tay while encouraging my fellow Westies to turn up the pace. I definitely intend to be there next year to support this great running weekend. The WRI home-baking at the finish alone is worth the effort on a great route on Tarmachan.
